Weyermann® Distillery Strikes Gold: DLG and Woman’s Throphy 2025
prestigious spirits competitions, we brought home a total of four gold awards for our handcrafted specialties. Both at the DLG Quality Test for Spirits and at the international Women’s Trophy, our products impressed the expert juries, once again confirming the leading position of Franconian distillation craftsmanship.
DLG Quality Test: Double Gold for Our Classics
At this year’s DLG Quality Test for Spirits, our Weyermann® Special 8 Single Malt Whisky and Weyermann® Johann Baptist Doppelkorn each received the top rating of gold. The DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft) conducts annual testing of spirits under strict sensory and analytical criteria, standing for the highest product quality.
Our Weyermann® Special 8 Single Malt Whisky combines eight selected Weyermann® malts into a unique composition. It delights with a bouquet of white grapes, ripe orchard fruits, and exotic notes, rounded off by hints of nut confection, vanilla, and brittle. Careful aging in three different casks creates a balanced and exciting taste experience with a long finish.
Weyermann® Johann Baptist Doppelkorn, bottled for the 145th anniversary of Weyermann® Malt, is a tribute to traditional craftsmanship. Distilled from raw wheat and our own pale wheat malt, it matures in chestnut casks and impresses with its mild character.
The DLG awards its coveted gold medals only to products that achieve flawless results in a rigorous sensory analysis across all criteria such as appearance, aroma, taste, and harmony. Additional laboratory and packaging tests are performed—only those who excel in all areas may bear the DLG gold. This distinction stands for objectively verified top quality and is a true seal of approval for connoisseurs and professionals alike.
Women’s Trophy: International Recognition for Whisky and Pear Brandy
We also shone at the Women’s Trophy, an international competition judged exclusively by female experts. Our Weyermann® Special 8 Single Malt Whisky and Wahlsche Schnapsbirnenbrand aged in acacia wood casks each received gold.
The Weyermann® Wahlsche Schnapsbirnenbrand, crafted from one of the best pear varieties for aromatic brandies, gains fully ripe, fruity pear aromas and nutty-sweet cask notes from aging in acacia wood. With its particularly smooth and full-bodied character, it is ideal as a digestif.
The Women’s International Trophy is a unique competition where only female experts from around the world evaluate spirits, wines, and beers in a professional blind tasting. The jury is made up of experienced sommeliers, distillers, and industry specialists who judge products according to international standards. Only the very best entries receive a medal—making this recognition especially valuable. The Women’s Trophy stands for the highest tasting expertise, diversity, and innovation in the industry.
