“Bierwerk” Competition Winner 2025: Weyermann® Malt and Training lead to success
Wonderful news reaches us from Kulmbach, where the brews of Upper Franconian brewer and maltster journeymen were honored as part of the “Bierwerk” competition. The brewing creation by our journeyman Jonah Stephan and his team took 1st place! Their beer specialty, which carries the melodious name “Bamberger Nachtwächterla,” impressed the jury with its unique character.
✨ Details about the winning beer:
- Deep black, lean Schwarzbier with pronounced roasted aromas
- Malt: 100% Weyermann® Malt (Weyermann® Isaria 1924®, Weyermann® CARAHELL®, Weyermann® CARAFA® Special Type 3, Weyermann® Acidulated Malt)
- Hops: Hallertauer Perle
- Alcohol content: 4.7% vol.
We warmly congratulate Jonah Stephan and his team on this well-deserved success!
We are particularly proud that Jonah Stephan is already the third Weyermann® journeyman to excel in this competition. Our former apprentices and journeymen, Bisrat Tsegay and Philipp Welles, also impressed with their beer creations in this competition and secured first place.
This year marked the seventh edition of the competition, organized by the vocational school center in Kulmbach in cooperation with the Bierland Oberfranken association. The goal of the competition is to recognize the outstanding quality of beer while showcasing the diversity of the brewer and maltster profession to the public.
Our Weyermann® brewmaster Constantin Förtner once again had the honor of being part of the expert jury evaluating the brews. Additionally, as part of the trainer consultation day, he gladly answered questions about the brewer and maltster profession.
We are delighted that our malt and thorough training contributed to this wonderful outcome! Well done!
