Axel Jany at the World Distilled Spirits Conference 2026 in Edinburgh

Axel Jany, Weyermann® International Malting & Brewing Expert, traveled to the United Kingdom in early May as a Weyermann® ambassador to attend the World Distilled Spirits Conference (WDSC). The international conference took place from May 4 to May 7, 2026, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) and brought together experts from distillation, raw material production, research, and industry.

The multi-day program offered a wide range of technical insights and opportunities for professional exchange. The opening already focused on technical excursions and initial encounters during the Welcome Reception.

Over the following days, parallel technical sessions, e-poster presentations, and visits to exhibition stands shaped the program. Topics ranged from raw material quality and process optimization to current developments in international spirits production. The structured combination of presentations, discussions, and informal exchange formats enabled in-depth professional dialogue and offered new perspectives on technological challenges.

Axel Jany used the event to contribute Weyermann® expertise in the field of high-quality malts for distillation. Discussions focused on raw material characteristics, sensory properties, and the targeted selection of specialty malts for whisky and other spirits. The direct exchange with distillers and industry partners provided valuable insights into diverse production approaches and the requirements of international markets.
