Weyermann® on Tour: Alirio Caldera at the ACCE Congress 2026 in A Coruña

From March 12 to 15, 2026, the annual congress of the Asociación de Cerveceros Caseros Españoles (ACCE) took place in A Coruña – one of the most important gatherings for homebrewers and craft beer enthusiasts in Spain.

The vibrant Atlantic city, known for its culinary tradition and its dynamic beer community, offered an ideal setting for four days of technical and sensory exchange.

Alirio Caldera, Weyermann® International Malting & Brewing Expert, represented us on site and contributed his expertise through discussions, tastings, and program activities.

In his presentation, he spoke about the premiumization of craft beer and demonstrated how raw material selection, process control, and sensory objectives shape the quality and character of a craft beer.

His contribution was very well received and led to engaging discussions on recipe development and brewing techniques.

A key highlight of the program was the beer competition for congress participants.

Participants were tasked with brewing a German Pils at home, which was then evaluated by a jury. The awarded beers showcased the impressive skill, dedication, and creativity present within the Spanish homebrewing community.

The ACCE Congress is renowned for its combination of solid technical learning and a strong sense of community. In addition to the technical sessions, the program included visits to local producers, gastronomic activities, and open tasting formats where attendees presented their homebrewed beers and received valuable feedback.

This created an inspiring environment in which learning, exchange, and enthusiasm for beer culture came together harmoniously.

Throughout the congress, Alirio Caldera engaged with homebrewers to discuss the diverse applications of Weyermann® Specialty Malts, share insights on recipe formulation and sensory profiles, and provide international perspectives. The many conversations reflected the continued growth of the Spanish homebrewing scene and the high interest in quality raw materials and brewing expertise.

We thank the ACCE for the excellent organization and the warm atmosphere, as well as all participants for the inspiring technical exchange.

Weyermann® looks forward to continuing to support the Spanish homebrewing community with knowledge, specialty malts, and strong partnerships.
