Weyermann® Distilling Seminar 2025 – A Review
We look back with great joy on an inspiring week at our Weyermann® Distilling Seminar 2025! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our guests from Ireland, Romania, Sweden, and Germany, whose enthusiasm and curiosity made the seminar an unforgettable experience.
Under the expert guidance of our award-winning Master Distiller Philipp Schwarz, and with the energetic support of our international malting and brewing experts Axel Jany, Alirio Caldera, and Fedor Nikolashkin, participants delved deep into the world of distilling with Weyermann® malts. The program offered a successful blend of in-depth theory and hands-on workshops, engaging lectures, exclusive tastings, and informative excursions.
A Diverse Program
The theoretical aspects of distilling focused on the history and diversity of whisky, the selection and processing of suitable raw materials, and the unique characteristics of various malt types. Expert lectures provided fascinating insights into whisky recipe development, the role of yeast and fermentation, as well as cask management and selection for maturation.
Another highlight was the practical sessions, where participants, under professional supervision, prepared a single malt mash, learned about modern distillation technology, and actively took part in the distillation process themselves.
The program was further enriched by exclusive tastings, guided tours of the Weyermann® malthouse, the craft brewery, and the barrel warehouse, as well as a joint session baking traditional Bavarian pretzels in the baking laboratory. Insights into filtration, proofing, and bottling of spirits rounded off the seminar.
Franconian Brewing Culture & International Friendship
Beyond the professional exchange, shared dinners—such as at the historic Schlenkerla—and an excursion to the Brauhaus am Kreuzberg in Hallerndorf provided opportunities to experience Franconian beer and brewing culture and to forge international connections. The seminar concluded with a festive certificate ceremony—a fitting end to an intensive and inspiring week in the red and yellow world of Weyermann®.
