We celebrate the 35‑year tenure of Thomas Kraus‑Weyermann at the helm of the family business. For more than three decades, he has led Weyermann® Malz together with Sabine Weyermann in the fourth generation, shaping the company’s strategic direction in a decisive way.

Under his responsibility, sales, raw material sourcing, and technical operations have been continuously developed. With technical expertise, entrepreneurial foresight, and a keen sense for market and industry trends, he has set lasting impulses for growth, innovation, and the international positioning of Weyermann® as a leading manufacturer of specialty malts.
We were able to celebrate a special family milestone: the wedding of Franziska and Klaas Weyermann. On this joyful occasion, family members, friends, and long‑standing companions came together to accompany the couple in a festive setting.

A particular highlight was the lovingly arranged guard of honor formed by the Weyermann® team, which visibly expressed the sense of unity and cohesion within the Weyermann® family. Guests from near and far gathered on the company premises to share memorable hours of exchange and celebration in a festive atmosphere.

As a sign of appreciation, the newly married couple invited the entire Weyermann® team to a shared lunch. In a celebratory setting, this moment was used to express gratitude, togetherness, and closeness.

The wedding of Franziska and Klaas Weyermann symbolized the lived sense of connection, trust, and family spirit that has characterized Weyermann® for generations.

We celebrated a double anniversary at Weyermann®: Sabine Weyermann marked 40 years in the family company, while Franziska Weyermann looked back on 15 years of dedicated service as part of the fifth generation. On this occasion, management and employees came together for a festive reception at the company site.

In personal addresses, the achievements of both jubilaries were honored. The focus was on their professional expertise, shared values, and their contribution to the ongoing development of Weyermann® as an internationally connected family-owned company.

The double anniversary reflected the strong sense of unity at Weyermann® and stood as a sign of the company’s trusted and continuous continuation across generations.
Weyermann® CARAFA® celebrated its 100th anniversary. Since its brand registration in 1925, Weyermann® CARAFA® and the other members of the CARA brand family have stood worldwide for high‑quality specialty malts and, as established brands, have shaped the international brewing landscape. The CARA family thus represents a firm and significant part of Weyermann®’s company history, grown and carried forward across generations.

We expanded our product depth with the commissioning of our new Weyermann® malt flour mill. By milling selected specialty malts, we created natural aromatic malt flours for the baking ingredients industry, further broadening our product portfolio with tailor‑made solutions meeting the highest quality, sustainability, and food safety standards.
Opening of the Weyermann® Brewers Lounge canteen at the Bamberg site. The conversion of historic buildings created a modern space for dining, communication, and exchange, providing additional capacity for the growing workforce and strengthening everyday work within the Weyermann® corporate identity.

Weyermann® is replacing the existing 2D matrix code on its malt bags with a QR code. A single scan provides direct access to the respective malt analysis and all relevant product information.
145 years of Weyermann®: The family-owned company celebrated its anniversary with a festive event for employees, retirees, and shareholders in Bamberg. The evening was opened by Sabine Weyermann, Managing Partner in the 4th generation, with an imaginary letter from company founder Johann Baptist Weyermann.

The retrospective on the company’s history emphasized the importance of family structures, partnership, and cohesion as the foundation of sustainable business success. The anniversary celebration reflected both shared pride in what has been achieved and a confident outlook toward the future.

The grain hall at the Leesau site is equipped with a modern photovoltaic system. The new bifacial solar modules significantly increase energy yield and enable the direct use of solar power during harvest season to operate the transport, cleaning and aeration of the grain on site.
In March we successfully complete the extensive renovation work on our historic malthouse building from 1904 with the facade design.

In the 145th year of the company’s founding, company founder Johann Baptist Weyermann now finds his place between two impressive buildings.

We celebrate 20 years Weyermann® Schlotfegerla®

In 2003, a small brewery was built on the company premises for “experimental and training purposes”. The first brew on the new two-device brewing plant was the anniversary beer for the SINAMAR® celebration (100 years) in 2003. Therewith our Schlotfegerla® was created. The idea behind it is a smooth and easy-to-drink bottom-fermented black beer with a balanced smoky note. The Weyermann® Schlotfegerla® has become our reference beer and proudly bears the No. 1 on the label. Available in the Weyermann® Shop Living & Drinking in Bamberg and in our Online Shop!
In August a further milestone in the company history is reached: after a planning and construction period of around 10 years, the Caramel Malt Cathedral is ceremoniously put into operation.

The Caramel Malt Cathedral is officially inaugurated as part of a barbecue for all companies and shareholders involved in the process.

On May 19th, Weyermann® manager Sabine Weyermann celebrates her 65th birthday.

In the fourth generation, she has been running the Bamberg-based traditional company for over 38 years together with her husband Thomas Kraus-Weyermann. As the leading figure of the Weyermann® specialty malting company, Sabine Weyermann leads the company of her ancestors to the top of the malt industry.

Sabine Weyermann celebrates her special day extensively with her family, long-time companions and employees.

As part of a reception, her guests honor Sabine Weyermann with many creative and thoughtful gifts. One of the many highlights is the Weyermann® “MalzköniGIN” gin created in her honor, including the first specially produced Malty Tonic Water. In keeping with this, Sabine Weyermann receives an impressive Corton steel sculpture from the in-house Weyermann® locksmith’s shop. On this special day, her guests also make her day with a singing performance, video messages and generous donations for one of her projects close to her heart. A street food catering for the Weyermann® employees on the historic company premises and other celebrations in Clingen, Thuringia, round off the happy and colorful days appropriately.
The Weyermann® management invites to a premiere: 1st Bamberger Hofbräu® Maibock beer tapping on the Weyermann® company premises „Plant 3“ – Memmelsdorfer Strasse / Brennerstrasse – where the Weyermann® brewmanufacturer is the home of the Bamberger Hofbräu®.

The guests enjoy the Maibock with suitable culinary delights such as steaks, bratwurst, tarte flambée and pastries.

In March, the new germination box N0. 8 is successfully put into operation.

A new milestone has thus been achieved in the malthouse.
On July 7th, 2022 our co-shareholder Dr. Michael Flämig died suddenly at the age of 46.

Born on June 5th, 1976 in Bamberg as the first of two children of Irmtraut Flämig, née Weyermann, he spent his school days in Bamberg.

He completed his studies in economics in Würzburg.

After his doctorate to Dr. re. pol in insurance law, he worked as an assistant at the University of Bamberg before joining Weyermann® in 2007 as an assistant to the management, where he was given power of attorney.

In 2015, after 7 years at Weyermann®, he decided to start his own business (Neoventi).

Dr. Michael Flämig leaves behind 2 sons aged 13 and 10 and his wife Natascha.

A new wet milling system and a big bag unit go into operation at the Heinz Weyermann^® extract brewery.

With these technical innovations, various malt blends can be run, even with the smallest quantities of specialty malts, making it possible to perfectly customize conventional or organic malt extracts.
The pioneer of Weyermann^® turns 65: President Thomas Kraus-Weyermann celebrates his birthday.

The entrepreneur, author, and renowned industry expert turned the family-owned company into the world market leader in specialty malts together with his wife Sabine Weyermann.

For his birthday, Thomas Kraus-Weyermann received many birthday videos from companions, international partners, and the Weyermann^® team.

He also got a unique beer from the Weyermann^® Brew Manufacture: The Weyermann^® No. 65 Heirloom Pioneer Thomas. He shared this special beer with the entire Weyermann^® team.

Weyermann^® CARAFA^® and the other members of the CARA brand family are worldwide THE renowned names when it comes to high-quality specialty malts!

The Weyermann^® brands are a significant part of the 140-year history of the company.
A significant capacity expansion of the Heinz Weyermann^® Roasted Malt Brewery is realized with new equipment.

The center piece is the new lauter tun from brewing equipment specialist Kaspar Schulz.

In addition, a new wort cooler, water tank, and mash finisher are build in. A newly installed big bag discharge system guarantees maximum flexibility in the use of a wide variety of malt blends for the production of aroma-rich malt extracts.

The modernization measures considerably reduce the roasted malt brewery’s CO₂ emissions.

Thomas Kraus-Weyermann celebrates his 30th anniversary at the company. Since 1999, together with Sabine Weyermann, he shaped the company to become the world leader for specialty malts.

For this occasion, Thomas Kraus-Weyermann happily shares the enjoyment of his specially brewed beer with all employees and grants each one a six-pack of the Weyermann^® “No. 91 Export Experte Thomas”.
The German version of the book “Dark Lagers” is published and enriches the bookshelves of industry experts.

The authors Thomas Kraus-Weyermann and Horst Dornbusch are happy to supply the demand for a German version.

The whole malthouse now runs with green power.

A beautiful flag was designed for this purpose together with the local energy provider. The flags are installed at every Weyermann^® site.

The worldwide Covid pandemic challenges Weyermann^®.

The Weyermann family promptly thought about what they could do to help during this challenging and difficult time. The idea was formed to produce ethanol in their own distilleries, in order to counter the shortage of disinfectants.

The ethanol was supplied to local pharmacies at cost price. The pharmacies used the alcohol for the professional production of sanitizers.

The English version of the book “Dark Lagers” is well received by the international brewing community. The publication is a joint project of Thomas Kraus-Weyermann and the renowned brewing journalist Horst Dornbusch.

Dark Lagers is a unique book that describes the special features of one of the world’s oldest and most misunderstood beer types.
140 years Weyermann^®: The strong family business – with its reliable bridges to 135 countries around the world – is celebrated in a grand manner. Employees, worldwide customers, distribution partners, and close associates celebrate the anniversary year at various events.

The story of a boss and his company is always a love story. When the boss loves the company, he puts his passion into it and thus gives the company a soul – at Weyermann^®, this love story exists for 140 years now!

Weyermann^® proudly presents its first whisky on 12/12/2018.

The Weyermann^® Single Malt Whisky matured for three years in the company’s own barrel room. New whisky compositions are now offered for sale in the Weyermann^® shop LIVING & DRINKING on a regular basis and in limited editions.
The new logistics and loading center (LVZ) located on Boettgerstrasse, is opened.

Ideally located near the motorways, the new plant provides 10,700 m² for order picking of daily shipments.

The 31,000 m² of industrial area offers potential for further growth of Weyermann^®.

Overheating in one of four kilns causes a severe fire on August 9th. Due to the immediate intervention of the Bamberg Fire Department, the fire is brought under control. Thankfully nobody was harmed. The damage, however, amounts to 1.5 million Euros.
Weyermann® Specialty Malts among “Bavaria’s BEST 50″. Every year, the Bavarian State Ministry of Economics, Energy and Technology honors the 50 fastest-growing medium-sized companies in Bavaria. The criteria for the award are employee and sales growth over the past five years. This independent award gives us great pride.

60^th birthday of shareholder and managing director Sabine Weyermann. Since joining in 1985, she has transformed the company into a bright red-and-yellow diamond. In the world-wide brewing community, the red and yellow corporate identity has become an epitome for tradition, highest product quality and endless creativity.
Gold and Silver at the Meininger’s International Craftbeer Award 2018!
We receive a gold medal for our Bamberger Hofbräu® Smoke and a silver medal for our Weyermann® RyePA. A jury of 84 experts selected the most outstanding beers out of 1,090 entries from 28 nations according to specific criterias.

Weyermann^® Malting Barley Producer Award 2018. With this annual award, first launched in 2012, we honor the extraordinary merits of more than 500 local farmers, who grow high-quality malting barley for us. Weyermann® proudly promotes the regional malting barley cultivation in Upper Franconia.
Franziska Weyermann, 5th generation, has successfully completed her studies for her diploma in brewing and beverage technology at the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan, the Alma Mater of four Weyermann generations. Since then, she has officially started working for the company as an assistant to the managing directors.

Weyermann® Malts acquires Thüringen Malz in Clingen.
Built in 1996, the malting plant is located in one of the world’s best malting barley regions and is designated to help meet the ever-increasing demand for Craft Terroir malts.
Investments at the company plant in Haßfurt.
After severe storm damage, five out of a total of eight 700 t silos have been renewed. In addition, a logistics hall with a modern packaging system (800 bags per hour) has been built and the barley reception has been modernized.

General operations manager Jürgen Buhrmann looks back on a quarter of a century in the company. Together with the managing directors he has greatly shaped the success of the past 25 years, with his very own cool-headedness and calm.
25th company anniversary of Thomas Kraus-Weyermann. Since January 1st 1991, he has been guiding the fate of the family business as managing director in the sales and engineering areas. Using his visionary genius for business opportunities, he continues to innovate.

135 years of Weyermann® Malt:
In the anniversary year, 90,000 tons of malt in 85 varieties are produced by 150 employees at three sites and exported by 50 distributors to customers in over 150 countries. 40,000 different beers are brewed with it worldwide.
The completion of the renovated Weyermann® visitors centre on the former site of the “Railway gymnastic and sporting club Bamberg” (ETSV) is an ideal extension of the company’s premises and also the highlight of the anniversary year.

At the European Beer Star Weyermann® wins a bronze medal with the rye beer “Bamberg Rogg’t”. It is the first participation and a huge motivation for the entire brewing staff.

1,600 beers in 52 categories participated.
The strong demand for bagged malts leads to investing in a new high performance bagging plant. The acquisition of the Scherbaum site in Bamberg offers Weyermann® very good expansion of storage capacity.

The purchase of the adjacent former “DiDio”-site on Brennerstrasse and its continuous development as Bamberg site #3 offers Weyermann^® the opportunity to grow in the immediate neighbourhood.
Weyermann® brew master Dominik Maldoner wins the 1st German Championship of Beer Sommeliers in Hallersdorf.
He qualifies for participation in the World Cup of beer sommeliers in Munich.

Sommelier Training at Weyermann® Malt:
The management and ten staff members are educated as beer sommeliers by professionals of the Doemens Academy. Thus the competence concerning „beer” is unique for a malthouse.

“Cervejaria Bamberg”, the brewery of Alexandre Bazzo from Brazil, is once again voted “Brewery of the Year”. The enthusiastic Weyermann® customer and Bamberg ambassador has already received more than 13 awards for his beers.
The new „terroir“-malts meet the great demands for malt that enables the brewer to reproduce the typical and authentic taste and aroma of beers of a certain region.

Concerning the malting and brewing industry, Weyermann® Malt has always been one of the “best of the best” since 2011, as stated in the “Encyclopedia of German World Market Leaders”.
For 25 years now, Sabine Weyermann is the managing director of Weyermann® malt in the 4th generation. Her strong commitment to the Bavarian economy is awarded by the Ministers of State Christine Haderthauer and Martin Zeil.

The surge in demand for roasted malts from Weyermann® leads to an expansion of the malt roasting capacities by installing additional roasting drums, 42 silos for roasted malt and thus to a revitalization of the entire site.
Weyermann® constructs its modern logistics center marking another milestone in the company’s history: Future-oriented, with an intelligent inventory management system and space for 900 pallets as well as a fully automatic bagging- and palletizing-machine.

Weyermann® acquires a grain elevator in Leesau as part of a farsighted strategy. The modernization and expansion of the silo capacities in 2011 increases the storage capacity to 45,000 tons of grains from Upper Franconia.
On the occasion of the 100th birthday of SINAMAR®, a new 2.5-hectoliter Kaspar Schulz testbrew system is brought into service – a milestone, followed by a pilot malthouse and a baker’s oven.

With the acquisition of former “Main malt” in Haßfurt, Weyermann® now owns a production facility for base malts – with ideal access to the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal.

For the first time Weyermann® joins the craft brewers conference. In doing so the company becomes a great companion and supporter of the craftbrewers’ movement and an international trendsetter in the malting industry.
A brand new, fully-automated brewery with vacuum evaporators for the production of SINAMAR® is installed in the former power house. The investment in an automatic bagging system is also future-oriented.

By constructing a new malthouse, the managing trio Sabine Weyermann, Thomas Kraus-Weyermann and Ludwig Popp dare to make a courageous step into the future.
Sabine Weyermann joins management, followed by her husband Thomas Kraus-Weyermann in 1991. Sabine and Thomas return the focus of production to specialty malts.

The companies focus is on the production of base malts. As a result, large new silos are set up until the late 1970s.
During the 1950s, the company is managed by the two cousins Rolf and Heinz Weyermann.

The production of SINAMAR® in Bamberg is resumed under the name of “Roastmaltbeer Brewery Heinz Weyermann” utilising former equipment from the Potsdam production plant.
The 50th anniversary of Weyermann® is celebrated with a grand festivity in the new ballroom which is purposebuilt for the occasion.
Export countries climb to over 30 this year.

Sabine Weyermann and her two sons Rudolf and Carl continue running the business after the death of founder Johann Baptist Weyermann.
With the national registration of the brand CARAPILS®, the success story of the Weyermann® CARA-family begins.
In 1924 CARAMÜNCH®, CARAWIEN®, CARAHELL®, CARADUNKEL® and CARAFA® are registrated.

First SINAMAR® is produced in Bamberg.
Due to beer tax reasons, Johann Baptist Weyermann relocates production to Potsdam in 1907, where SINAMAR is being brewed with great success until 1945.
The roast malt beer “SINAMAR®” is developed. Johann Baptist holds the imperial patent of a “Production process of flavourless and concentrated colour malt extracts for the production of dark beer”.

“Gambrinus”, is the first of many registered Weyermann® trademarks. Prizes and international awards confirm the high quality of the specialty malts from Weyermann® and are testimony of the early international networking.
Gustav Haeberle (1853-1930) is the architect of all buildings on the Weyermann® site. He is married to Johann Baptist’s sister Kunigunde and closely connected to the family. He manages the implementation of the idea of a “city outside the city”.

The prosperity of the company requireslarger production facilities: Johann Baptist Weyermann decides to set up a new factory for specialty malts at its now present location.

Carl Weyermann, brother of Rudolf, is born. After several internships at breweries he goes on to study at the brewer’s school of VLB in Berlin from 1910 to 1911.
Rudolf Weyermann, son of Johann Baptist, is born. After schooling, apprenticeship as a banker, and some internships he studies brewing technology at Weihenstephan.

On October 4th Johann Baptist Weyermann establishes the “Mich. Weyermann’s Malzkaffee Fabrik on the property of his inlaws on Laurenzistraße.
The production system consists of a small roasting drum under a tarpaulin.
Johann Baptist Weyermann inherits the grain store and continues running it. Three years later he marries Sabine Sippel, daughter of the city’s pharmacist.

Johann Baptist founder of today’s company and son of Michael Weyermann is born in “Fischerei No 17”, as fourth of seven children.
The eponymous patron of the company, Michael Weyermann, is born in Bamberg’s picturesque quarter Little-Venice. Like his father he becomes a skipper, and expands the transportation business to a grain store.

Since the 16th century, members of the Weyermann family have been working as fishermen and skippers on the Regnitz and Main rivers. The family has been working in these professions for centuries.
The former book of citizens called “Immunitätenbuch” of 1510 contains the oldest evidence of the name “Weyermann” in the city of Bamberg.
