Weyermann® on Tour: Axel Jany at Distill Asia 2026 in Bangkok

From March 26 to 27, 2026, this year’s Distill Asia took place in Bangkok – Asia’s leading professional conference dedicated to the art of distilling. The event brought together distilleries, raw material experts, brand representatives, and innovation leaders from across the region, offering two days of in-depth knowledge exchange, networking, and insights into current developments within the Asian spirits sector.

Representing Weyermann®, Axel Jany, International Malting & Brewing Expert, traveled to Thailand as a brand ambassador and enriched the conference program with his own workshop.

Axel Jany presented his talk “Comparison of Two 100% Malt New Make Whiskies”, in which he explored different raw material and process approaches within whisky production. Using two New Make variants made from 100% barley malt, he demonstrated how the selection of specific Weyermann® malt varieties, as well as process design, influence sensory characteristics, aroma development, and maturation potential.

His session provided participants with valuable insights into raw material characteristics, fermentation behavior, distillation parameters, and sensory evaluation, offering practical impulses for the further development of their own production processes.

Distill Asia 2026 was held at the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam in Bangkok and featured presentations, workshops, and a trade exhibition showcasing leading raw material and technology suppliers from the industry. The conference aims to connect the Asian distilling community and to share knowledge on trends, techniques, and quality strategies.
