Weyermann® Academy: A Look Behind the Scenes at Radio Bamberg

On February 25, 2026, Radio Bamberg opened its doors exclusively for our Weyermann® team and their accompanying partners.

That afternoon, we gained a comprehensive insight into the diverse world of regional radio – informative, engaging, and presented in a very personal manner.

An Evening Full of Media Knowledge

We were welcomed by Mischa Salzmann, Managing Director of the broadcasting center.

Afterwards, Marcus Appel – known to many as the “Radio Bamberg Know-It-All” – and the Radio Bamberg team guided us through the different areas of the station.

The group was divided to ensure that all participants could enjoy an in-depth and focused experience.

Presentation by Marcus Appel

Marcus Appel provided an overview of the development of Radio Bamberg as well as the station’s broad range of activities.

A short film impressively showcased the variety of event formats – including public viewings, family festivals, morning show tours, village tours, the ice tour, and prize competitions.

He also explained the history of the station:

Radio Bamberg emerged in 1991 from the merger of Radio Regnitzwelle and Fun Boy Radio.

Under the name Radio Antenne Franken, the station began broadcasting and has been operating under its current name, Radio Bamberg, since 1996.

Another focus of the presentation was the station’s financing through radio advertising and the regular telephone surveys used to analyze audience listening habits – which consistently show strong results for the station.

Insights into the Broadcasting Studio

The second part of the tour took us directly into the moderation area.

Andreas Eller explained the studio’s workflows – from the coordination of the three large monitors to the microphone setup and the daily music planning, which is managed by Jörg Wagner.

We learned how local news is produced directly in the studio, while nationwide news is supplied centrally from Munich.

The weather forecast also comes from an expert source: Christian König, known as the “Weather King,” pre-records the regional weather reports.

Particularly fascinating was the blend of live moderation and pre-produced segments.

Giving the program a personal touch is essential for connecting with listeners, the team explained.

The studio insights were rounded off by a demonstration of the speed trap alerts, which come exclusively from listener voice messages – a vivid example of direct interaction between the station and its audience.

During our visit, Andreas Eller and later Diana Weber delivered live news and traffic updates, giving us an authentic impression of the daily work routine.

The tour lasted about 90 minutes and was perceived by the entire group as excellent, humorous, and very well organized. Special thanks also go to the colleague who guided the second group through the broadcasting center.

Culinary Conclusion at Brauerei Gasthof Höhn

Afterwards, we concluded the evening together at the Brauerei Gasthof Höhn in Memmelsdorf.

The entire team was impressed by the quality of the food, the appealing presentation, and the friendly, fast, and professional service.

All dishes were served simultaneously, creating a pleasant and harmonious atmosphere. The restaurant distinguished itself as a high-quality and welcoming venue.

Thanks to All Involved

A heartfelt thank-you goes to the team at Radio Bamberg for the informative, lively, and excellently organized tour, as well as to the team at Brauerei Gasthof Höhn for the outstanding hospitality.

We also thank our management for covering the costs of our food and beverages at Gasthof Höhn.

We extend our thanks to our management for the invitation to this special Academy experience, which broadens our knowledge, opens new perspectives, and strengthens our red-and-yellow team spirit.

Events like this remain in fond memory and reinforce the strong bond within our Weyermann® community.
