19th annual Swedish Championship, Stockholm 2007
600 visitors sampling over 80 different beers.
In the professionally judged competition, 296 beers brewed by 150 different homebrewers!

The happy woman in the yellow dress is Jessica Heidrich. She won the gold medalfor the Strong Pale Ale competition and both bags of Weyermann malt.

Jessica has consistently been the leading homebrewer in Sweden for the past several years, with three consecutive best-in-show awards among many other achievements. She is helping me with the new edition of my book on brewing. Jessica first learned to brew beer in one of the brewing courses I taught in the early-mid 90s. She is also a chemical engineer, working with microbiology research at a biotech company.

Charles Cassino earned the gold medal in the Strong Speciality Beers competition class, with an imperial stout. In the final round of judging, the winners from each of the 10 competition classes are compared to each other, and a best-in-show beer is selected. This year it was Charles who won the finest award.

Charles is a great guy and he was a very popular winner. He has for the past several years been teaching brewing courses in Stockholm, as well as coordinating the brewing courses given by the Swedish Homebrewers Association all over Sweden. He first learned to brew beer in one of the brewing courses in the early-mid 90s.

All in all, there were 42 awards given at the Championship. (Gold, silver and bronze in each of 13 competition classes, plus awards for rookie of the year, most creative beer style, and best label.) Out of these awards, we are proud to note that 41 were given to customers of Humlegårdens Ekolager.
