Over 100 medals for Weyermann® customers at this year´s European Beer Star
Our Weyermann® customers from all over the world achieved a great success at the European Beer Star 2016. Over 100 from a total of 171 gold, silver and bronze medals went to Weyermann® customers this year!
In the 13th edition of the European Beer Star, one of the most important beer competitions in the world, a total of 2,103 beers from 44 countries were submitted - an all-time record!
The competition is aimed at breweries from all over the world, who are committed to the traditional European brewing tradition. The beers, which are special, authentic, convince by their taste and fulfil the variety criteria best are awarded.
In a two-day blind tasting round, the 124-strong international jury from 30 countries determined the winners in a total of 57 categories. 40 percent of the beers were submitted from Germany, 60 percent from countries such as Australia, Iceland, Myanmar, Taiwan, Cyprus or even Colombia.
Most of the medals went to the breweries in Germany this year - a total of 69 medals - but the US brewers led the medal table with 17 gold medals. The most successful US brewery this year regarding gold medals was the Ballast Point Brewing Company from San Diego, a Weyermann® customer, who won a total of three gold medals.
Europe´s most successful brewery comes from Austria this year: Ottakringer Brauerei AG from Vienna, also a loyal Weyermann® customer, who took home two gold medals and two silver medals. The leading German breweries with both two gold medals were the breweries Gold Ochsen from Ulm and Erl-Bräu from Geiselhöring. Also faithful Weyermann® customers.
The biggest surprise came from the breweries from Italy. After only one gold medal at the European Beer Star 2015, they were able to win the gold medal in ten categories this year, which made them the third-strongest nation at the European Beer Star 2016. The following Weyermann® customers were among the successful breweries: MC 77 - Birrificio Artigianale, Birra Perugia, Birrifioc Lambrate, Birrificio Renazzese, Birra Elvo and Birrificio Antoniano.
