Weyermann® hands over check - limited edition to the anniversary 1000 years of St. Michael’s Abbey

„We need this commitment!“ Wolfgang Metzner, the third mayor of Bamberg, praised Sabine Weyermann and Thomas Kraus-Weyermann, Weyermann® management fourth generation, for the manufacture brew of the mixed herbal beverage „Cerevisia Michaelsbergensis“.
All the proceeds from the sale of the unique specialty for the 1000th anniversary of the Michaelsberg Abbey goes to the preservation of the St. Michael’s church, which is in need of renovation. At the final event for the limited edition of 1,000 bottles at the Weyermann® visitors center on Brennerstrasse, Sabine Weyermann symbolically handed over a check for 9500 euros to mayor Wolfgang Metzner and treasurers Bertram Felix and Rebecca Hammann from the finance department foundation management.

„If every company in Bamberg would contribute a part to preserve this gem on the Michaelsberg, that would be nice!“ the third mayor Wolfgang Metzner dreamed in front of many town councils, officials of the city of Bamberg and supporters of the Michaelsberg Abbey after the donation ceremony. He thanked Sabine Weyermann and Thomas Kraus-Weyermann with their team even more for their generous donation to the foundation management of the city of Bamberg.
For many centuries the beer and the monastic life have been closely linked with each other, so the town was very excited about the idea of a mixed beverage modeled after medieval herbal beers.

Reverse Sabine Weyermann spoke of the St. Michael’s monastery as a great inspiration for the „Cerevisia Michaelsbergensis“ consisting of 97% Bock beer and 3% herbal brew. With over 80 malts of the Bamberg specialty malts manufacture the family business brings the soul into estimated 50000 beers worlwide: How nice if the soul, mind and body perfectly come together as in the limited edition of „Cerevisia Michaelsbergensis", all participants of the evening agreed.

Tasting with all senses

Of course, a detailed tasting of the nut-brown and naturally cloudy brew, brewed with licorice, pepper, ginger, chamomile, lavender and saffron followed. Weyermann® customer consultant and beer sommelier Karl-Ludwig Rieck awoke all the senses of the guests and invited them to see, taste and smell the anniversary beverage - brewed with traditional artisanal produced floor-malted malts combined with highly aromatic caramel malts.
There were only positive feedbacks on the anniversary beverage with delicate herbal notes, which once again confirmed the major sales success of the specialty. Meanwhile, all bottles of the limited edition are sold; the no. 1000 as already the first bottle of the series goes to Lord Mayor Andreas Starke, who called it a “fine thing” at the opening event.

Specialty beers and beer seminars

Weyermann® Malts wants and will continue to promote the brewing culture beyond this commitment to the St. Michael´s monastery.
