Worthog Summer Beer Festival 2010, Pretoria, South Africa

10.05.2010
37 breweries with 76 various types of beers joined this year`s Worthog Summer Beer Festival in Pretoria, South Africa!

Nicole Feuring, Weyermann® Customer Service Representative South Africa, represented Weyermann® and congratulated the winners (1st - 3rd price winners were awarded with a certificate of the club) with special gifts of the red & yellow Weyermann® World!

First price winner was Carl and Ruanne Sandrock.
They brewed a Stout - of course with Weyermann® Specialty Malts!
Carl`s description of the awarded beer:
“The winning beer was "Fat Cat" Russian Imperial Stout (BJCP style 13F).

Indeed, most of our speciality grain bill was from Weyermann®s. We used your Wheat malt, CaraRed®, Roasted Barley, Chocolate, Cara Aroma®! The only fermentables not from you was rolled oats, pale malt and lactose. I can give you much detail about the recipe, but basically single infusion full grain mash with the above fermentables at 66 degrees C, then boil with lactose and saaz hop, then ferment at 25 degrees C with American Ale yeast (wyeast 1056). Force carbonated with only CO2. Our goal was a "big" beer. OG was 1.090, FG was 1.021, ABV about 11%.“

Second price winner was Mike Heydenrych, who already won one of the first three prices last year - of course also brewed with Weyermann® Specialty Malts.

Third price winner were Theo Groenewald und Oliver Meckler with their "Strawberry Blonde" – a specialty ale with cabernet grapes and some champagne yeast.
