Beers brewed with WSM – Weyermann Specialty malts!!

03.01.2008
Inspired by the Africa leadership conference in Ghana, Christian von der Heide (master brewer,Diageo/ www.Diageo.com) came up with the idea that people pay a fee to participate in the brewing of their own beer, all proceeds to go to the 1 Million Water Challenge.
The project was named Aqua de Beber and in November, 33 individuals in six teams donated money to experience firsthand the art of brewing.

The result - six unique, high quality beers - slow brewed, gently mashed and hand crafted. Once brewed, the kegs travelled to Dublin for bottling, before returning to London.
Tuesday 18 December saw the finale of the Aqua de Beber challenge, held in the bar at 7HQ. Each team designed and labelled the bottled beer, and merchandised their respective stalls, before selling samples and bottles of the beer to the audience;
selling techniques included fancy dress attire, the allure of food and unashamed bribery. Each beer was outstanding - high quality, unique taste and varying ABVs.
The six beers - Big Tooth, Dr Brown´s Nut Ale, Bohemian Triple Gold, 5urrey´s Quint, St Clements and De Blonde Godin - were sampled and judged by the Exec "Jury" (Nick Blazquez, Matt Barwell and Nancy More), who have the inenviable task of selecting a winner. ´

The overall winning beer was St Clements, brewed by Stephen Gater and Carlie Russell; together with Darren Peck and Chris Lewis, the team will travel to Vienna, to see 1000 litres of their beer brewed, for sale in the local area (courtesy of the 1516 Brewing Company).
The proceeds of the beer sales will also contribute to the 1 Million Challenge.
Keith Chapman was master auctioneer, successfully selling off three unique items - one more brewing day, a boxed set of the six beers, and a unique blend of the six beers in a Guinness bottle dating back to 1959.

In total, the Aqua de Beber challenge has raised nearly £4,800, with money still coming in. A fantastic example of an idea which inspired many, cemented great relationships and will benefit communities in Africa.
