A path-breaking multilateral agreement

The European Union and the United States of America have announced a path-breaking multilateral agreement covering the certification of products labeled “organic.” Effective June 1, 2012, any product certified as organic in either the EU or the U.S. may be sold without any additional certifications in both markets. This new partnership establishes a strong foundation for the further growth of businesses and jobs in organic agriculture and the organic food and beverage industries, on both sides of the Atlantic. To Weyermann® and its worldwide customers, this move is significant because all Weyermann® organic malt products certified according to EU regulations may now also be marketed as meeting the “100% organic” NOP standards of the United States Department of Agriculture. Weyermann® fully supports this simplification of procedures in the cooperation between the world’s two leading organic producer-economies, the EU and the U.S.
